All those gymnasts' eyes at the podium training are GLUED to your performance, it's amazing to see. Is that a G combination on the pommel with the R1080? Immaculate execution

Wonderful podcast! What you are both saying about building a community and culture to promote both gymnastics as well as health and fitness in general is so important. Not only fir the well being of people in general, but also to be able to create great athletes! Especially smaller countries can't afford to waste talent so having an open, inclusive culture that encourages everyone to take part and have fun really helps find those outliers as well as the people they need to be surrounded by to go all the way! I've heard it said that there are more artistic gymnasts in the US than there are people in Sweden (or Ireland), that is saying something about the fact that there is an Irish pommel world champion!

Your too hard on yourself Rhys the more negative self talk the more de motivate you will be, Focus on your positives and what that says about you.

Accepting that with some day/some times, the body can be fallible, a little fatigued and being perfect every time can lead to a lack of growth. Better that you hit the wall now and learn how to go thru it then to have that wall stop you from getting the win.We all have bad sessions where something is a little off so we focus on the quality and that will give us the quantity.Whatever is the weakness,make it your strength. Don’t forget to pat yourself on the back-you’re doing a good job- it’s about Paris..

Everyone including thise that refuse to confess to...has some rough water to wade through. Yes it feels like the tide is trying to pull you into deep water and out of your comfort zone.. just clear your mind of thought. Focus on one thing. Let things clear .as you did never cut short the training just go back to basics till your body wants more.

Shocked that you won?!?!? You had already won it 2x before!!!

I’m happy that you’re sharing some of the sessions like the first one. Pommel can be unbelievably frustrating sometimes, particularly during a comp build up when the pressure is on to perform during trainings to build confidence in the routine. I find it so challenging to move past the bad sessions because of how much of an emotional toll they can take. I think that’s one of the most painful parts of gymnastics, but equally the most satisfying emotionally when the goal is ultimately achieved. It definitely gives me some confidence to see a dual world champ feeling some of the same things. Keep up the great videos Rhys, I’m really enjoying watching your Olympic journey!

Rooting for you! By the way, the way you guys swing your legs on the pommel horse reminds me of helicopter rotors. Is there a “helicopter” move in your sport?

So glad to see the helicopter trip. If you spend all your time thinking only about training and the pommel, you will narrow your life to an unsustainable tunnel of unsatisfying stops and starts. Keep your focus broad and remember that you are more than an athlete. Much of who you are is not visible in any competition. Meditate! Good luck!
